The village of Lydford is famous for its 11th-Century Castle, which was actually a notorious prison, and the National Trust property, Lydford Gorge, a beautiful scenic walk with the impressive "White-Lady" waterfall and the dramatic "Devil's Cauldron" fed by the rushing River Lyd.   Easy access to the open spaces of Dartmoor can be obtained via a lane just next to the "Dartmoor Inn", which is only a five-minute walk away from Downtown Farm, on the A386 Okehampton-Tavistock road.

Lydford has two excellent pubs. The "Dartmoor Inn" is famous for its food, and the "Castle Inn", in the centre of the Village (about a 10 minute walk southwards from Downtown Farm), is a traditional English Pub offering good home-cooked food.

From Lydford, easy driving takes one to the bustling, historic market towns of Okehampton (about eight miles to the north) and of Tavistock (about seven miles southwards).
